Using Templates and Layouts

If you are creating a course for the first time, ZilLearn’s optional templates and layouts can help give you an idea of how you can organise your course content. This article will take you through how to add and edit your templates and layouts.


Adding a template

Each template is made up of several content blocks for text and images. There are two ways to add a template to your Activity:


Important: Replacing a template will remove your existing images and text in the course creation interface.


Method 1: By clicking and dragging a template

  1. Select the Templates tab.

  2. Click and drag your chosen template to your content as shown in the image below.





Method 2: By clicking on a template

  1. Select the Templates tab.

  2. Click on your chosen template to your content as shown in the image below.




You can add or remove content blocks from the template at any point, including content blocks for videos, audio files, and attachments. 


Adding text and images using layouts

To add text and images to your course, you have to first add a Text Layout or Image Layout to your Activity.


To add a text layout to your activity:

  1. Select the Text tab.

  2. Select a text Layout, then drag and drop it into the course.

  3. Replace the default text with your own.




To add an image layout to your activity:

  1. Select the Image tab.

  2. Select Layouts, then drag and drop your chosen layout into the course.




  1. Drag and drop an uploaded image to replace the default image. Read this article to learn more about uploading files.




  1. You can now resize and crop your image:

    1. Resize your image by dragging the four corners of the image.

    2. Crop your image by moving it within the layout.

    3. You can reset your image by selecting ↺.

    4. Select to save your changes.


Moving, duplicating, and deleting blocks 

To move, duplicate, or delete your content blocks in activities:

  1. Hover your cursor over the content block you wish to edit.

  2. Select the respective icon on the right of the content block:

  • : Move the content block up

  • : Move the content block down

  • : Duplicate the content block

  • : Delete the content block
